Moore Concrete Project Approx Value: £50k
Moore Concrete supplied and installed fifty one cantilever rib deck units as part of bridge strengthening works to the 1960s viaduct which carries the A4174 over the River Frome in Bristol. The slim profile and use of lightweight concrete in the replacement cantilever units reduces the dead load to the structure.
Project challenges included:
• The use of lightweight aggregate presented challenges in maintaining a workable concrete mix. This led to a steep learning curve in order to provided the specified F3 finish.
• The concrete mix specification was demanding, 66% GGBS, 50N 28-day cube strength, lightweight aggregate.
• Complex geometry, angled soffit, requiring two secondary pours and protruding reinforcement.
• Transport of the units, required bespoke concrete skids which were designed to follow the angled soffit of the units and allow offloading by forklift.
