Moore Concrete manufactured Cill Beams for Appleby Station for Story Contracting.
We provided the cill beams with complete waterproofing detail to allow for a quicker turn around on site.
Appleby Station sits on the picturesque Settle-Carlisle Line. The Victorian bridge which carried both platforms was in dire need of reconstruction. Over Christmas 2013 Story Contracting undertook a 54hr core possession.
This project was full of challenges, with restricted access and one of the worst winters experienced in recent years.
The old bridge needed to be removed with existing abutments prepared before the new PCC cill beams were installed to line and level. Once this was completed the two new 61 tonne bridge decks were lowered into position. The tracks were reinstated and site was handed back to Network Rail on Boxing Day. Additional work was carried out mid week to minimum disruption.
