We are looking for an experienced Batching Coordinator to oversee our batching operations, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and quality in concrete production. This is a key role that involves more than just plant management—it requires leadership, problem-solving, and coordination across departments to support our overall site operations.  The Batching Coordinator will manage the day-to-day batching process, ensuring that concrete is mixed and delivered efficiently to meet production schedules, customer specifications, and quality standards. The successful candidate will be crucial in maintaining safety compliance, optimising productivity, and leading a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the batching process to ensure accurate mixing and delivery of concrete.
  • Adjust batching priorities as needed to meet production schedules and demand.
  • Ensure all raw materials (water, cement, aggregates, admixtures) are proportioned correctly.
  • Monitor moisture levels, aggregate consistency, and concrete quality throughout the batching process.
  • Maintain detailed records of all batching activities, including mix adjustments for quality audits.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Lead, train, and manage the batching team, ensuring all team members are fully trained in safety, equipment usage, and batching procedures.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, providing feedback and development opportunities.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels and delegate tasks effectively to maximize productivity.
  • Foster a positive, safety-focused work environment that encourages teamwork and accountability.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure all batching equipment is regularly serviced and maintained.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on batching machinery to minimize downtime.
  • Ensure that all machinery and plant areas are kept clean and in good working condition.
  • Identify any potential hazards or mechanical issues, ensuring swift action to resolve them.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Standards (ISO 45001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001).
  • Actively promote and enforce safety procedures, conducting regular risk assessments.
  • Maintain a safe and organized worksite, ensuring all team members follow best practices.
  • Report and document any incidents, near-misses, or quality concerns in a timely manner.
  • Conduct regular stock takes and ensure accurate inventory records.
  • Monitor raw material levels, placing orders when necessary to avoid shortages.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of materials.
  • Work closely with Production Supervisors, Quality Control, and Maintenance Team to ensure smooth operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and implementing more efficient batching processes.
  • Participate in Operational Excellence programs, helping to refine processes and improve plant productivity.
  • Any other duties within reason and capability, as agreed with Company Director.

Personal specification & essential criteria:

  • Minimum 2+ years in a batching, quarry plant, or concrete manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of concrete batching, quality control, and plant operations.
  • Experience in managing, training, and developing a team.
  • Ability to troubleshoot batching plant equipment and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Familiar with ISO standards (45001, 9001, 14001) and workplace safety regulations.
  • Record-keeping and documentation skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple departments to meet production goals.
  • Competency in using batching software and data entry systems.
